Insecticides
Insecticides are specially developed preparations consisting of chemical substances, the main task of which is to destroy various types of:
- plant pests, their eggs and larvae;
- household insects that carry diseases (flies, ticks, fleas, others).
A properly selected insecticide, depending on the type of insect for which it is intended, can effectively destroy both young pupae and adult individuals.
Classification
Modern manufacturers offer a huge selection of insecticides against pests, which are classified according to various characteristics.
By nature of penetration into the body
All drugs are divided into several groups.
- Contact (penetrate through the outer covering). Their use helps to destroy harmful insects during external contact with any part of their body. Such preparations are dependent on atmospheric precipitation and have a protective effect.
- Intestinal type. Due to penetration into the intestinal system of insects through the digestive organs, they affect pests by absorbing poison into the body. They are intended for insects with gnawing and sucking mouth apparatus.
- Systemic type of action. Such preparations penetrate the body of insects with poisoned food, therefore systemic insecticides are similar in their action to intestinal preparations.
- Fumigants. Agents that are used in the form of gas. They penetrate the body of harmful insects through the respiratory system. The preparations can also be used to exterminate rats (deratization), disinfect greenhouses, and warehouses.
Preparations offered by modern manufacturers are often universal insecticides that have several of the properties listed.
By type of action on pests
- Continuous action. Used to simultaneously destroy various types of pests and insects.
- Selective action. Used only for one type of harmful insects. In turn, such insecticides are represented by several subcategories:
- anthelmintics (chemicals that destroy parasitic worms in animals and plants);
- nematicides (chemical preparations used in case of roundworm nematode infestation);
- acaricides (products that are used to destroy ticks. They can be specific, acting only on ticks, or insectoacaricides, which also act on other insects, including ticks).
What insecticides exist?
Pest control products differ from each other in the presence of the main active ingredient in the composition, and are divided into several groups.
- Containing avermectins. They are classified as highly effective insectoacaricidal and obtained through microbiological synthesis. The active ingredient of these preparations is avermectins. When they enter the body of pests, they cause irreversible damage to the nervous system of arthropods, destroy the eggs of ticks and other insects. The products of this group are destroyed under the influence of natural factors from 5 to 7 days.
- Containing pyrethrins (also called pyrethroids). They are also classified as highly effective modern preparations (the natural preparation pyrethrum acts as their derivative). The products destroy cold-blooded animals by damaging their nervous system. The spectrum of action of such preparations is quite wide, after using the substances there are no stains, the preparations do not have a strong odor.
- Containing organophosphorus compounds (OPC). This group includes insecticides that are widely used in domestic conditions, in agronomy, in household plots.
